With two more fixtures remaining in the ongoing 5-match T20I series, both India and Australia have made sudden changes to their squads.
Following an abandoned game in the series opener at Canberra, the contest is currently levelled at 1-1, with Australia securing a victory in Melbourne and India returning to their winning ways in Hobart.
As the fourth T20I in Gold Coast turns out to be a pivotal fixture, the exclusion of Kuldeep Yadav and Travis Head from the Indian and Australian T20I squads, respectively, continues to be the hot topic of discussion.
Why Kuldeep Yadav is Sidelined for the Remainder of the Australian T20I Series?
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has decided to relieve some workload on Kuldeep Yadav by resting him for the fourth and fifth T20Is of the series in Australia.
This gives ample time for the young left-arm wrist spinner to prepare for the upcoming 2-match test series at home against South Africa, starting on November 14 (Friday).
Also, Kuldeep has been selected in India A’s squad for the second unofficial test match against South Africa A on November 06 in Bengaluru.
Ahead of the high-stakes test series, BCCI’s strategic move ensures Kuldeep to allocated enough time and enhances his skills in the red-ball format.
The 30-year-old has proven to be a match-winner for his team in the longest format, both in subcontinental and overseas conditions.
So, the Indian cricket board has been conscious of managing their key spin bowlers’ workload, focusing on the series against the reigning world champions, South Africa.
Also, his inclusion in the India A squad proves the BCCI’s clear approach to provide early exposure to the players in the traditional format and get familiarized with the playing conditions ahead of the crucial series.
Kuldeep Yadav’s Performance in the Australian Tour 2025
Throughout the white ball tour of Australia, Kuldeep Yadav grabbed 3 wickets in 2 matches. Out of the 3-match ODI series, the veteran spinner featured only in the last fixture in Sydney and took a single wicket of Mitchell Starc.
Also, he featured the playing XI in the series opener, but the match was abandoned due to severe rain in Perth. Kuldeep appeared in the second T20I match of the series in Melbourne and recorded a bowling figure of 2/45 in 3.2 overs. However, India lost the game by 4 wickets by failing to defend a mediocre 126 target.
Kuldeep was benched in the third T20I in Hobart, where India pulled off a 5-wicket victory riding on the contributions of Arshdeep Singh (3/35 in 4 overs) and Washington Sundar’s unbeaten 49-run knock.
Travis Head Chooses Sheffield Shield to Regain Form
Australia’s destructive opening batter, Travis Head, will not feature in the remaining two games of the ongoing T20I series. The left-handed batter has opted to rediscover his peak form, representing his state team in the Sheffield Shield before the commencement of the Ashes 2025-26 scheduled between November 21 and January 08.
Head hasn’t been in his subpar form in his last eight innings of white ball cricket, having failed to accumulate beyond 31 runs.
So, the Australian selectors have come up with a decision to motivate him to return to domestic cricket. Perhaps, this is the only option where Head could get back to form with a sequence of strong performances in red-ball cricket ahead of the highly anticipated Ashes 2025-26.
Along with Head, other senior Aussie players like Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood, Steve Smith, and Sean Abbott have now decided to enhance their preparation for the Ashes by playing state-level cricket.

Cricket Australia hasn’t named any replacement for Travis Head and decided to continue with their same squad consisting of 14 players:
